Dear Parents of teens,
We know, firsthand, how weird, and how hard it is to raise children in today’s world. You and I are navigating ground that no other generation of parents had to figure out. The questions your kids have about God, happiness, suffering, and family are ones sometimes we don’t know how to answer either. My wife and I are still in the trenches, having graduated one from High School with two more to go. I have found the answers to so many of my kids’ hard questions to be answered not by blind faith, but by thoughtful, curious thinking and a life in Jesus. What does that even mean though? “Life in Jesus”?? For us it means showing up. Trusting that God is present and active in our lives. Coming back and coming back and coming back, until the scales fall from my eyes and heart and I can see His Goodness. Goodness, Beauty, and Truth were identified by the earliest Great philosophers as the primary things we seek in our search, our work as humans. Friends, we find these in our Church. You know you can find these in your non-church life, but they are fleeting. Through our ministry to the youth in our area we will keep pointing to the divine as the answer to their complicated questions.
To that end, I would like to invite you to partner with us in giving your child(ren) a solid and reliable program of prayer, formation, fellowship, fun, and retreats this year in youth ministry. There are lots of ways you can get involved, starting with a training day here on campus. We will begin the process of equipping our Core, parents, and ambassadors for serving youth. Bring a friend so you can sit together and share a smile.
Saturday, August 19th, 8:30am-4:30pm, Our Lady of Light Parish Center. No cost to attend.
You’ll walk away with:
- An appreciation for the power youth have in a parish
- Tools to support teens as they navigate these years
- A full heart, thanks to the prayer, worship, and encouragement of this training day
- Understanding of how you can support OLOL’s Youth Ministry
- Our goal remains simple: to lead teens closer to Christ and to train as many volunteers and core members as possible in the skills it takes to build and sustain a youth program.
We will cover topics including:
- Understanding Gen Z
- Helping Teens Grow in Reverence
- Sharpening Youth Nights
- Coming Together as a Core Team
- Developing a Rhythm of Prayer.
It will be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. We hope to see you there.
